Canada's Constitution Act requires a study of federal electoral boundaries following each 10-year census in order to account for changes in population distribution in Canada. This non-partisan process is led by independent commissions for each province to establish new electoral boundaries for each riding.
The current federal electoral redistribution process began in October 2021 and the consultation period opened in September. Under the current proposal, the neighbourhoods between Thomas St. and Britannia Rd W. will be moved to the riding of Mississauga-Meadowvale (formerly Mississauga-Streetsville).
As the Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erin Mills, I believe it is important for residents to be fully aware of proposed changes that can impact your representation at the federal level. That is why I sent out a mailer that was delivered to doors in our riding this month, and why I continue to engage with residents on this issue.
How to participate:
The commission for Ontario is hosting public hearings for residents to ask questions and learn more about this process. You may make a written submission through their website or by email at [email protected]. You may also or register to attend their upcoming virtual hearing for Mississauga on September 28th.
The deadline to register for the public hearings is September 25th, and the deadline to submit written feedback is October 29th.
