Today, the Government of Canada opened public consultations for you to have your say in our new Safe Long-Term Care Act. This legislation will establish new guidelines to strengthen accountability, safety, and quality of care in long-term homes across Canada. Your input will help us shape this policy to ensure that our elders, including Indigenous peoples and those with disabilities, are treated with the dignity they deserve.
The consultations are open until September 21st, 2023. I know many residents in our riding have a lot of feedback to share on this issue so I encourage you to participate at the following link:
You may also read the discussion paper for more information on these consultations and our government's work to fix this pressing issue: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/programs/consultation-safe-long-term-care/document.html.
As your Member of Parliament, I have been working with concerned residents and organizations in Mississauga-Erin Mills to advocate for change in provincially administered long-term care. I raised this issue in the House of Commons and joined the call with my fellow MPs for the federal government to step in and establish these new national standards. The Safe Long-Term Care Act is the next step in our federal government's work to fix this broken provincial system.
Whether living at home or in long-term care, our elders deserve dignity, care, and respect. I will continue advocating on this issue and look forward to sharing more updates as they become available.
